New York Holiday 2012, Part 4 – NYC Night Street Scenes

After visiting 9/11 and walking through Chinatown back toward Midtown we called it a day for most sight-seeing, not of course finished off first with a nice meal at one of the hundreds in and around the Midtown/Times Square area.

I thought my part 4 of my holiday would be random night scenes. I thought it would be better to categorise the type of photo I took based on what the subject is rather than doing it on a per-day basis, so these were taken all throughout my holiday.

I’m avoiding any night photos taken at Times Square, you notice, since I think this deserves its own post on it’s own :)

The famous(?) NASDAC building

The mist and steam from the Subway below gives every shot a cinematic feel.

Tried my best throughout the holiday to try to capture the everyday life of the people who live & work in New York City. This woman, cycling down 6th Ave at 11pm, perhaps just finished work? Or maybe on her way for a night shift.

And this girl, stood on the corner near 30th St & 7th. Off for a night out with her friends? Or something more I wonder?

New York Holiday 2012, part 3 – 9/11 Memorial

Been a little slack with writing more about my NYC holiday that I went to last month but I’ve been so hectic with being at work and fixing up bits on my s13 that it’s gotten past me. Anyway I thought the next update would be of the 9/11 Memorial which is what we went to see on the same day as seeing Chinatown & Brooklyn Bridge.

The 9/11 Memorial is about a 15 min walk away from Brooklyn Bridge but finding your way into the actual memorial was quite a challenge. Eventually found a queue and jumped in, without first having all our bags searched & having a full body-search as well. The height of NYPD around this area was very intense, as you can imagine.

They’ve made a lovely memorial I think, and quite a unique one on that. Instead of building right on top of the Ground Zero sight, instead they’ve made these 2 huge pool’s from the original foundations of the Twin Towers. For those of you who don’t know much about how & what they’ve done, I’d highly recommend trying to catch “Rebuilding Ground Zero” on YouTube and/or on the Discovery Channel.

Sophie spotted this tree was different from all of the others and since we had both that “Rebuilding Ground Zero”, she remembered that this was the only surviving tree from the wreck. It was guarded with this railing around and anchored down with straps. This shot was pretty special for me, showing this remarkable surviving tree in the foreground, with the south pool in the background and behind that Tower One WTC.

The Tower One WTC was equally as impressive as its surroundings, towering above the memorial garden and I could really feel its presence as a statement to “We are America, we will rebuild and grow stronger”. A tear to both Sophie’s & my eye’s came upon us walking around, feeling the impression of this.

A really special place and its a must-see and must-experience place if you ever go to NYC. They’re building a Museum as well which will open in 2013, I’d have loved to have seen that, perhaps on my next NYC visit.

Project 365:2012 – March 23rd – 28th.

March 23rd – Average day at work then headed over to Cannon’s/Josh’s/Stu’s place to chill out. Didn’t really do much, but was nice chilling. Drove my s13 there too, enjoyed the drive back :)

March 24th – Woke up really early met Stu, Ryan & Rich down the road then we headed into Southampton to get wheel alinement done. Top job done by Nick at The Wheel Alignment Center, cannot believe the difference! Early afternoon headed back to Ryan’s, fixed my power steering leak then helped with arch rolling!

March 25th – Didn’t fell very well in the morning and missed out going to Soph’s folks house for a Sunday roast. However later that evening went to Ryan’s place, watched Outsiders DVD again and wired up the inside part of my new Nissan Lucino lights on my Almera

March 26th – Back to work, the day was pretty average. In the “Monday Morning Meeting” I noticed a package arrive which I was pretty sure was mine due to its shape & size! Sure enough it was – genuine Kouki bumper with lights & extensions! Yuss :)

March 27th – Pretty quiet at work so I spent my lunch break playing on Draw Something. Incredibly simply yet addictive game, love it :)

March 28th – Another average day at work, Fab & Kris were not in today due to going to a programming conference in London. Heard about the possible fuel strikes on the news and drove past the queue’s at the local BP garage. Fools!

Project 365:2012 – March 22nd

March 22nd – After waiting for a couple weeks for these to turn up they finally did as I arrived at work. Nissan Lucino rear lights for my Almera GTi. Similar to VZR lights, but they’re clear on the top section rather than orange. These bad-boys usually got for some serious money, but I snatched the deal of the century, it seems, with this pair! :)

Project 365:2012 – March 14th to 21st

14th March – Went out for a work meal in the evening but stupidly I forgot my SLR camera. Took this on my phone before I had a couple of beers!

15th March – After the said “couple of beers” from the work night out, we all got talking about giving up a “bad” habit for the rest of the month. I said I’d give up fizzy drinks, so now I’m stuck on the Ribena!

16th March – My manager role kicks off next week so I thought it would be best to spend some time on Friday afternoon setting up “the new guy” Ben’s PC. Uhhhhgg, I hate Windows but gotta be done!

17th March – MOT time on my s13! And it passed all fine, albeit with a couple of small things that needed sorting but nothing too major. Chuffed for yet another year of motoring & can’t wait to drift again!

18th March – Bit of a chill out day, went to the Ferry Boat on Hayling and both my gf’s folks & mine met for the first time. Scary, but everyone got on as I knew they would. In the evening went round to Jim’s workshop where Cannon was trying on Stu’s old XD9′s on his R32. Tasty!

19th March – Small ongoing maintenance with the s13 after work and hunting to find the source of my power steering leak. Found out that I think it was simply that I’m using Jubilee clips rather than something more beefy.

20th March – Greg popped into my work on his way to work to lend me his Vernier gauge, and when I left home I got on to measuring the power steering pipes diameters that requires new clips. Then, good ol’ eBay to buy the clips!

21st – Pretty mental day at work and got home at 10pm. Girlfriend bought me a Coconut today and I enjoyed that whilst catching up on my Project 365! :)
